Bright paint on one wall ‘is a budget-friendly DIY trick’

10th February 2010

Homeowners who want to give their property a makeover on a budget can paint one wall a bright colour to instantly give the room a lift, one interior designer advises.

British Institute of Interior Design member Adrienne Chin says as well as giving a room an affordable lick of paint, new cushions and rugs – which may be in the same colour as the feature wall – could also be a wise DIY move to make.

People may want to stick to a "fresh spring" palette of accent colours when creating a feature wall.

Ms Chin advises "to use them in a small quantity because they do vibrate if they are very vibrant colours, so too much of them just becomes overwhelming".

Another home improvement tip for Britons on a budget is to sew a bright trim down curtains to perk up their tired appearance.

House Beautiful magazine recently asserted that pastel-coloured paint will be popular this year as the 1950s influence interior design.
